My Inspirations

Alfred Hitchcock
AS level gave me the foundations for some of my interests, mainly from our analysis on the film ‘Vertigo’. The work of director Alfred Hitchcock is something I find absolutely fascinating, from his openings, micro elements and narratives. Since then, the director is someone I have vastly watched and researched and inspires some of my work too.

His film 'The 39 Steps' inspired one of my first year projects. As this is one of the directors early films (1935), I would have normally be hesitant to watch a film of such an age- as I think a lot of my generation would be. However, it was inspiring to see a film so reliant on narrative and acting as opposed to graphics and special effects. Even in his colour films, he uses colour with a purpose and everything contributes to the storytelling.
